CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Baiken
CANON: Guilty Gear
CANON POINT: Post AC+ Route 1
CHARACTER AGE: Baiken doesn't have a set canon age, but it can be assumed she is an adult.
HISTORY: Wikia article
PERSONALITY: Baiken is a very broken person. The trauma she suffered at the hands of the Gears and That Man has left her physically and mentally scarred to a degree that is likely irreparable. It has left her wrathful and brutal to those around her, quick to anger and to violent action in most situations. In canon she routinely loses patience with others and goes on the attack when she doesn't get the response she wants or needs.

Her desire for revenge guides her life almost completely, leading her down a dark and bloody path. She makes very few friends, feeling like they will only either get in the way, or refuse to accept her for who she is (the aforementioned broken person). She keeps Anji, probably the person she's closest to in life, at a constant arm's length, in spite of his constant attempts at affection. She coldly shrugs off any attempts at friendship, and will even threaten to kill people who push it too far (though Anji is still alive...)

Baiken also has an unusual relationship with her identity beyond her all-fueling desire to kill That Man. In terms of national pride, she has a deep resentment to the idea of the Japanese race being exceptional just because they faced genocide. But on the other side, she also has tremendous pride in Japanese identity and refuses to hide the Japanese parts of her personality or appearance like most colony escapees would. The same comes to her gender. While not explicitly agender, Baiken does not really consider herself a woman, feeling that her path of bloodshed and revenge exists beyond the concepts of gender.

While Baiken insists she's not capable of affection or humanizing herself beyond the cold-blooded killer, there are moments in canon where she genuinely accepts the concerns and feelings of others, and shoes a willingness to help others or even show affection. Anji stands out as the chief example, as she allows him to travel with her and humors his attempts at "protecting" her (though she is clearly far more capable). She briefly works alongside Venom and Chipp as part of an anti-corruption hit squad helping out the disenfranchised and oppressed. While she's not fond of May's youthful enthusiasm, she refuses to be directly cold or cruel to her, choosing to humor her and even impart advice and guidance.

Baiken is a person constantly struggling against what she lost, what that loss made her into, and how she can reconcile all of that with her humanity. It's a struggle that either leads her to accept the presence of and need for companionship and to live for something besides chasing death, or to go completely mad and seek only to kill and kill until her life comes to a violent end.

ABILITIES: In a world of super powered magic users and augmented creatures and wizards and god-like weapons of mass-destruction, Baiken is incredibly normal. She has limited use of magical abilities, mostly with using ki, but for the most part her virtue is entirely in her skill and technique with her sword. In addition to that, she has a plethora of hidden weapons on her person designed for hunting Gears and youkai, giving her an edge even over metahuman types.

SINS & VIRTUES: Wrath is the absolute primary sin of Baiken, a consistent element in her story and personality. She is easily angered, motivated by rage and revenge, etc etc. While she does have some other sins and virtues in small amounts (pride and envy, to the largest degree), Wrath is very much the core of who Baiken is, or at least what she's become.
